Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian Character Analysis

In this book, Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie explores a young Native American student goes through many challenges, with others and himself. The student had a small group of friends, Rowdy, Penelope and Roger. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie shows that friends would stand up for each other, forgive, be trustworthy with keeping secrets, have sympathy, show support and respect.
The character of Rowdy shows how friends stand up for each other and how they could forgive each other even if a friend feels betrayed. Rowdy was always like a brother to Arnold, he would always stand up for him when he would be bullied by pummeling the bully. One example is when Arnold says “what if someone picks on me” (18) and Rowdy replies, “then I’ll pick on them” (18) when arnold was feeling nervous about going to a powwow. Another example is when t the beginning of the book, Rowdy was Arnold’s best friend until Arnold said “I am transfering to Reardon” (49). Rowdy pummeled Arnold and hated him. At the end of the book,

The first example is when Penelope was crying, she told Arnold, “people think that my life is perfect” (108).The second is when Penelope also told here opinion about what she thought about the town “it’s small...everything is small” (111). After Penelope and Arnold knew each other for a while, Penelope developed the trust trust to tell Arnold her secrets and Arnold telling Penelope his secrets.
